Why Spring Is The Best Time For Flat Roof Repairs

Now we are in February, spring is just a few weeks of the shortest month away, which means the cold, grey days of winter will be giving way to lighter, warmer and hopefully (at least sometimes) sunny days, while the green shoots and bright colours of the season emerge.
Amid these natural joys comes an opportunity, for this is the best time to carry out flat roof work, like a new garden office roof covering. The saying ‘fix the roof when the sun shines’ is true enough, but you can get a head start before the (hopefully) sunny days of summer.
The first reason to do such work in the spring is because your existing roof will have taken a lot of punishment. By the end of January there had been five named storms in the 2024-25 season to hit the UK, with Eowyn the most severe, although the worst effects were up in Scotland and Northern Ireland, not down here in Buckinghamshire.
Fixing any damage caused by storms is just part of the task. There may also be issues with gutters caused by blockages (although ideally the leaves should have been cleaned out in autumn), or possible damage from freeze-thaw in the January cold snap.
Apart from that, it may be that, understandably, you won’t have spent much time outside in winter checking out the state of your garden office.
The other benefit of having the work done in the first half of spring is that it helps you get your garden room in tip-top condition to enjoy in the summer months. Indeed, you don’t have to wait for May and June to do so; this year’s Easter is unusually late (Easter Sunday is April 20th).
That means you can enjoy four bank holidays in just over a month at the end of spring, as well as the full summer that follows. And because the roof will be in tip-top condition, you will not have to worry about leaks if the summer ends up being a disappointing washout.
