Spring is the best time to sort out your guttering, so while you are beginning to enjoy longer evenings and warmer temperatures, you should arrange for experts to maintain or repair the gutters in the garden room or house.
Winter can be a tough time for gutters, as they typically accumulate lots of debris, such as fallen leaves and branches. This prevents the water from being able to flow down the building efficiently, resulting in blockages on the roof.
If the gutters are blocked, this can lead to water pooling on the roof, weakening its structure and causing damp patches, water stains and leaks. Rainwater that is not drained away from the brickwork or roof can also lead to cracks.
All of these can be costly to repair so it is best to sort the problem out before it gets worse.
The warmer weather is also when plants start to grow, so if you do not get them cleared at the beginning of spring, homeowners risk weeds, moss and mould rapidly growing. If vegetation is left, its roots can grow and cause lasting damage to the gutters.
This debris also attracts pests, from rodents to insects and birds. These creatures can cause damage to the property, while they might also get inside the house and become difficult to remove.
Spring is, therefore, a good time to make any repairs to the guttering or clear it. Improving weather conditions mean more debris is unlikely to fall afterwards, and the gutters will be able to handle heavy rainfall once April showers arrive, moving water away from the house and preventing overflow.
